Against Embodiment: Anti-Human Garbage in a forest of Nihil
Archived Event
“Against Embodiment: Anti-Human Garbage in a forest of Nihil,” an installation by artist enormousface, was a collaborative project that transformed discarded objects into entities that seemingly rebelled against human embodiment. The installation brought to life an array of trashed utilities, creating a vivid expression of resistance against the conventional centrality of humans as the primary bearers of meaning.
The installation challenged the disenchantment of the world caused by the implicit prioritization of homo sapiens and their experiences. It highlighted the existence of an underclass of ‘Abjects’ — objects and entities disregarded and deemed useless, floating in their own disembodied, unpersoned state of redundancy. This creative endeavor sought to imbue these spectral entities with a tangible corporeality, capturing the poignant pathos of their absence and overlooked existence.
enormousface’s installation stood as a powerful commentary on the human-centric worldview, questioning the traditional hierarchies of significance and inviting viewers to reconsider the value and presence of the non-human in the everyday world.
