Space it turns out holds everything.

Building upon the success of workshop: Solo shifts / Live scores facilitated by Performance artist Vicky Kapo at the Play_station gallery during the week-long and highly successful PAWA festival in November 2017.

Kapo is offering a two-day workshop, so a longer conversation with kinetic orality and other pleasures within performance can occur.

In group and solo work we will responsibly support and craft our own performance and performance material with the bodies of knowledge we have and the spaces we own until we are content.

What is it: A fluid and functional space for people who like to improvise perform and or move stuff, whether it be themselves, others, space, objects, sounds, words images, and beliefs.

We will develop the artful debate of provocateurs, engaging scientifically in non-judgment. We will drop attachments and desires for it to look, or sound like theatre, or a dance, or dance theatre or a script. We will drop the counts, move the lights, discard costuming and release the ego. we will throw out the deep and meaningful concepts and also the well-meaning scores. Strip the space and ourselves bare so can embrace the naked body as if it were a foreign country.

Only then will we return to the bodies we know we will wilfully begin to rebuild our experience of performance, performer witness and audience member destroying the idea of performance space along the way before we start again.

Who for: For people who like to disrupt, dance, design and distill actions in front of others.

It’s for any performance artist budding or established that has ever had the impulse to make noise, or move, or recite text, or disrupt, or develop live spatial forms, of any type whilst in the midst of your own or some else’s performance.

This includes Russian agents, activators, agitators, political clowns, poets, and pirates. It’s for the femmpunks, softbouys, transistorises and the narrative free and non freed who want to dominant, induce, be held submissive and worked until content.

Welcome.

You are needed here because your inquiry and your participation in this inquiry will allow everyone involved in the workshop to drop in deeper, thereby adding to the long conversation, opener; What is performance, and my place in it?
